Here we find a Delahaye 175 with a one-off body by Saoutchik. All very interesting but what few know is that this car, once the property of the late Diana Dors, has had a very varied and chequered history. During the 1970s its then owner formed the opinion that Delahaye's 165 bhp 4.5 litre six was insufficient for the job in hand and took it upon himself to replace it by an Oldsmobile Toronado engine and transaxle which gave him the world's first, only and probably last fwd Delahaye. Matters went from bad to worse over the following decades and the by-now sorry remains were restored to what we see now, which is pretty much a recreation of what it originally was. It's now been reunited with the correct running gear, you'll be glad to hear. Went for $3m last time it changed hands.

165hp -> over 300hp? I can see how he might have been tempted, heresy notwithstanding. FWD is a bit odd, of course.

300 bhp in a modern car? Good. 300 bhp in a 1949 car (and a pre war design, essentially)? Less good.
Why he chose that particular combination I have no idea. In his defence values then were nothing like what they are now and I suppose he though he'd improve on his old banger.

Sex on wheels. Saoutchik's designers were crazy in a very, very wonderful way. Also, I get the idea of wanting more power, but straight six>V8 every time.
